Policies of the UGDR |
- Rescue dogs shall be evaluated by UGDR or it's approved outside
facility for temperament towards other dogs, cats, people and children.
- Rescue dogs shall receive necessary veterinary care as required upon their arrival to UGDR.
To include a general veterinary checkup. General checkup to include a visual
check of hips, listen to heart for abnormalities, visual exam of ears and
eyes, visual valuation of skin, palpation of abdomen, visual dental exam, as
well other normal exam procedures. (Lab tests and X-rays may be done upon
the recommendation of the veterinarian.)
- Rescue dogs shall have their vaccinations updated as necessary, these include Rabies (if 6 months or less remain on current vaccination) , Bordatella, Distemper/Parvo Combination (DHP-P) (if 6 months or less remain on current vaccination).
- Rescue dogs shall be micro-chipped.
- Rescue dogs shall be spayed / neutered. UGDR will pay for the spay / neuter at our approved veterinarian. Any other veterinarian or any other adopter optional veterinary services such as but not
limited to pain medications shall be the financial responsibility of the adopter (As a normal course of events, almost all newly spayed / neutered dogs have a small amount of pain soon after the
surgery. However this is usually very little and for a very short time period [2
to 5 days dependant upon the age and general health of dog.]. UGDR believes that this small amount of pain is useful to help the dog avoid activities that may cause
complications later. In those rare cases where pain medications are necessary for the dogs health, the adopter must have the veterinarian contact UGDR
for approval of payment for pain medications).

(No amount is too small to help these wonderful
dogs.)

- When placing a Great Dane with the
UGDR a monetary donation is greatly appreciated. Any amount helps to defray
the costs incurred by the UGDR in its rescue operations. Please note, no
Great Dane shall be refused strictly based upon the inability to make a
donation

AVID Micro-Chip (Official Scanning Station) |
UGDR is proud to announce that we are now an official
AVID Friend Chip scanning
station. All dogs that are brought to our rescue will be scanned for
Identification Micro-Chips. For a Donation to the UGDR, we are able to
micro-chip animals other than just Rescue Dogs. We will also assist in
identifying animals with AVID Friend-Chips that are brought to our facility.

Pure Breed Great Danes |
- UGDR is a breed specific rescue. This means that we only work with pure bred
Great Danes. Mixes are referred to 'ALL BREED' rescues.
- All
Great Danes placed by UGDR are recognizable as pure bred. Color however is
not a consideration by the UGDR, we recognize that not everybody that
produces a litter of Great Dane puppies conform to the color ethics of the
Great Dane Club of America.

Euthanasia |
- UGDR is a Non-Kill rescue. All
Great Danes accepted into the rescue shall be placed in appropriate
permanent homes.
- The only exceptions to the No-Kill
policy is if the dog is people aggressive or in such bad health without the
hope of recovery that the humane act is to end the suffering.

UGDR serves the entire State of
Utah as well as Southern Idaho (Boise and south), Southern Wyoming, and
Eastern Nevada.

Outside of Service
Area |
- Rescues and adoptions outside our
normal service area are possible.
- UGDR is unable, at this time, to
transport dogs outside our normal service area. However if an adopter is
able to meet us in Taylorsville, Utah (a suburb of Salt Lake City) or other
agreed upon location in our normal service area, arrangements can be made.
- UGDR does not ship dogs by air or
rail. All transportation must be by ground vehicle

Applications |
- All potential adopters must fill
out an 'Adoption Application'. This
application is used to assist the UGDR place the right Great Dane in the
right home. It is important that ALL information be accurate and as
complete as possible. Incomplete applications may either be returned to
applicant to finish, UGDR may contact with specific questions or may be
deleted if necessary.
- All persons wishing to assist the
UGDR either as a 'Foster Home', or as an 'Associate' must fill out the
'Foster Application'. This
application is used as a screening aid. It is important that ALL
information be accurate and as complete as possible. Incomplete applications
may either be returned to applicant to finish, UGDR may contact with
specific questions or may be deleted if necessary.

Fees |
- UGDR is a Non-Profit organization.
Fees are set for the benefit of the dogs being rescued. These monies
received go for veterinary services, food for rescue dogs, transportation
when required as well as reimbursement to foster homes for these same costs.
While no two dogs ever incur the exact same costs, the 'Fee' for adoption is
a set amount. Currently this fee is $350.00 (Three Hundred and Fifty Dollars). Money not
spent for one dog goes to another that needs more care. UGDR accepts checks,
cash or money orders, in US funds, only. We do not accept credit or debit
cards at this time. All fees qualify as Donations and are Tax
Deductible.
- Occasionally UGDR may reduce the
adoption fee for reasons UGDR deems appropriate.

Special Need Adoptions |
Occasionally Great Danes come into
the rescue needing special care or living conditions. When this happens UGDR
may negotiate a special adoption fee to help defray some costs that the new
family may incur. UGDR may, at its option, waive an adoption fee. UGDR
recognizes and greatly appreciates the extra effort required to care for a
special needs dog.

Contracts |
All adopters and foster people are
required to sign a contract with the UGDR. Because of this requirement all
applicants must be at least 18 years of age (per Utah statute).

Privacy Policy |
- All information provided to the
UGDR by an applicant shall be considered confidential. UGDR does not share
this information with any other organization. UGDR does not sell any
information to any other organization.
- UGDR may, in the spirit of
co-operation with other rescue organizations, offer the services of foster
or associates of UGDR. This sharing of services shall be on a strictly
voluntary basis of the individuals involved. Fosters and associates may
participate to the extent they wish, either any time needed or on a case by
case situation.

Foster Home and Associates |
- Foster homes for Great Danes are occasionally needed for short time foster
up to long time and even permanent foster homes.
Application to Foster for UGDR
is required for ALL fosters. Each foster situation shall be determined by
UGDR on an individual basis as need arises. UGDR will pay for certain
expenses connected with fostering.
- Associate are volunteers that are willing to participate in events,
education and other activities that the UGDR needs help with.
- The UGDR will occasionally hold classes, work shops etc. to assist in the
training of Foster Care Givers and Associates.
